A Fountain of Misinformation

If you know my husband, you have a nickname, even if you are not aware of it.  He's the king of nicknames.  One of our children is lovingly called "A Fountain of Misinformation."  This child is full of facts and "knowledge" except he sometimes gets it wrong even though he proclaims his "knowledge" as truth.  This type of thing happens within Christendom too.  There are many people out there handing out "wisdom" and advice in the name of Christ, except they get it wrong.

The Bible is full of verses pertaining to wisdom.  In fact, if I were to list them all here, most of you would quit reading before you got to the end.  So, I will pick just a few.

James 1:5    If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Proverbs 1:7    The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:6
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;

Proverbs 10:8    The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.

The Bible is also full of verses about foolishness.  Again, I will share only a few.

Proverbs 18:2    A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

Proverbs 18:7    A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

Proverbs 14:7-8    Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge. The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving.

Proverbs 10:14    The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near.

Where does wisdom come from?  The Bible clearly states that it can only come from the Lord.  But knowledge and wisdom are different.  A person can have great knowledge yet lack wisdom.  People can also love the Lord but lack wisdom.  When you seek out advice from people, consider whether or not they are giving you wise counsel or if they are merely a fountain of misinformation.  Heed the warning in

Proverbs 14:15   The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.
