When You Don't Know What to Do

We rarely escape life without soul piercing pain, and God rarely explains why He allows us to suffer. But this I know: When pain is inevitable and life is falling apart, I want to be on God's team. When I don't understand what is going on, and I don't see a way through, I will stay with Him. Sometimes that is the only decision I am able to make, and thankfully it is the only one that matters.

Jeremiah 17:5-8

Thus says the Lord:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,
whose heart turns away from the Lord.
He is like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
He is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Though the world may fall apart around me, though society may condemn me, though my family may leave me, though I may lose all I possess, though I may even lose my life, the Lord will never leave me. As long as I stay with Him, He will make all things right one day. When I cannot make any other choices, I will make the one and only choice that counts. I choose God.
